Funds raised for Shelter Scotland

‘Stories on Finding Home’ collaborative book accompanied the exhibition ‘An Ordinary Eden’ at Street Level Photoworks in 2023. Over the 4 years of the work, everyone Margaret Mitchell photographed was asked if they wanted to contribute creatively to the project which Mitchell then collated into a book to raise funds for Shelter Scotland hardship fund.

This book contains stories of adversity that sometimes began in childhood and often remained in adulthood. Using a mixture of creative and collaborative approaches, each page offers insight into specific experiences or longer testaments from years of homelessness. Development workers from Shelter also wrote reflections from their years of experience with some also contributing photographs.

The profits from the book have now been donated to the hardship fund at Shelter Scotland, which gives immediate access to funds and assistance for people most in need.

It’s important for me that work has a purpose suited to its subject matter. That it can somehow contribute, and in this case, money raised went straight back to supporting people at the sharp end of homelessness.
